Mt. Redoubt blowing











Redoubt eruption continues with 2 afternoon blasts; ash fall advisory issued for western Kenai Peninsula

The eruption of Mount Redoubt continued Saturday with two afternoon explosions, bringing the overall total to at least 18 since the initial eruption on last Sunday,March 22.
Redoubt erupted Saturday at 1:40 p.m. and again at 3:29 p.m. The latter explosion sent an ash plume up to 35,000 feet according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, which reports that seismicity is still "quite elevated."
There is an ash fall advisory for the western Kenai Peninsula, including the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer and Cooper Landing.
Marine vessels in the northern part of Cook Inlet, north of Kalgin Island have been cautioned to expect light ash fall.
Unrelated to the volcanic activity at Redoubt, Anchorage is under a high wind warning from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday along Turnagain Arm and the Hillside. Winds are expected to increase to 50 to 60 mph with gusts 75 to 85 mph.
